3. Creating the database
You will need to create a database for the DataPower Learning Online training
system.
- If you are using the Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) or a SQL Server
dedicated for DP Learning Online, follow the steps below
- For a SQL Server
hosting several systems you might want to follow the steps outlined in this document.
- Start WinAdmin from the DataPower Learning Online programs group
- Supply name for DataPower Learning virtual directory, (given in step 1.3.3
or 2.3.3)
in the welcome dialog:
- Note! If you are going to run DataPower Learning Online
from the root directory of your website, leave this field empty.
- In the Data Link Properties dialog, enter the Server name for
the server where the SQL Server is installed. If you are using MSDE this is
the name of the server where you are installing DPLOnline
- Select Use a specific user name and password, and type in logon
information for the SQL Server account that will be used for DPLOnline. If
you are using MSDE you may use "sa" as user name and select the
blank
password check box
- If required type in a name for the new DPLOnline Database, or accept the
default name. The database should not exist if
this is the initial setup of the system. (If you press the Test
Connection button you will receive an error message. This is correct
(by design), because the database will not exist at this time)

- Click OK
- In the New Database dialog accept or modify the defaults for
file location and size for the new database
- One Course Title consumes typically less than 5 MB of database capacity
- Each user consumes approximately 2 KB of database capacity for each course
he/she is using

- Select OK and the database will be created and initialized
- In the New Admin dialog supply given Organization ID
and fill in user data for the DPLOnline administrator user account
- This user is the
initial user of the DPLOnline system, and will have permissions to administer
courses, course-sets and reports in DPLOnline

- In the Organization tab supply name and address information of
your organization:

- Select the Category tab to supply from 1 to 5 information categories
that the users will be prompted for upon registration (f. ex. Department, Skill
level etc.). This information will also be used for administration and
reporting purposes:

4. importing content
- If not already running, start WinAdmin from the DataPower Learning Online programs
group and log in using the user created in step 3.9.
- On the Content tab press Import to
import supplied courses:

- Select to import some of all course(s) from the list box in the Import
dialog and press Import to copy data and files:

- On the Content tab press Update License to apply the supplied license
file:

- Get the path to the DPLicense.dat file by pressing the ...
button:

- Select DPLicense.dat from the installation disk and click Open:

- Select Exit
5. Test the system
- Start your browser, and specify the URL where DataPower Learning Online should
be found
- This will typical be "http://webserver/virtualdirectory"
(In this case "http://pcjofw2k/dplonline")
- You should now get the DataPower Learning Online Welcome screen in
your browser.
- Enter "system.asp" at the end of the current Address in the browser's
address field to open the system.asp document. (In this case "http://pcjofw2k/dplonline/system.asp")
- Enter "info" as both username and password and select
OK
- You should now get some system information about your site.
- Ensure that Site ID to INI match is OK (ref 3.2). If not, edit
the file dplearning.ini (found in the Windows directory [winnt]) as requested.
- Ensure that the Database information is given. This proves that your
database is connected properly.
6. Build course sets
A course set is a container for courses. You build course sets to mach the
different training needs for different groups in your organization. You should
plan which groups of courses will be suitable to match your training goals, and
build course sets to match these groups of courses.
- Navigate your browser to the DataPower Learning Online URL entered in step
5.1. (In this case "http://pcjofw2k/dplonline")
- Log in as administrator with username and password given in step 3.6
- In the menu to the left, select Administration (NOR: Administrasjon)
- Select Course sets (NOR: Kurssett). No course sets should exist at
this time
- Select New course set (NOR: Nytt kursssett)
- Give the course set a descriptive name and select which course(s) should be
added to the course set by clicking on one or several of the listed courses.
-
Press Register (NOR: Registrer).
- Take a note of the numeric course set ID of the newly generated course set.
- Repeat step 5-7 if you wish to build more course sets.
7. Build access key (NOR: registreringsnøkkel)
- When your users are ready to start their training, the first thing they have
to do is register for the DataPower Learning Online training system. To do this, they
need an access key (NOR: Registreringsnøkkel).
- The access key holds information
about which organization they belong to, and which courses they will gain access
to (through the course set ID).
- A user may gain access to one or several course
set(s), and one course set may hold one or several courses. Here is how to build
an access key:
- In the Administration screen, select Access key (NOR: Registreringsnøkkel).
- Type in the course set ID to identify which course set this access key will
give access to.
- You may enter several course set ID's using "-" as
delimiter.
- Press OK, and your access key will be presented. Present this access key to
the group of users targeted for this course set.
- Repeat step 1-3 for each access key you will need.
- Since the administrator account is generated using the WinAmin application,
this admin user is initially not connected to any course in the system.
- If you
want the administrator to gain access to one ore more course sets, select Users
(NOR: Brukere) in the administration menu, select Show list (NOR: Vis liste),
select the administrator by clicking on the Lastname field.
- In the User
information screen, enter the appropriate course set(s) and update the user
account.
You are now ready to start using DataPower Learning Online in your
organization. Distribute the appropriate access keys (NOR: Registreringsnøkler)
to your users including information on which URL to use, and they should be able
to register and start training.
